If you're trying to log into your account to restore your charting data on a new / reset phone and you've forgotten your encryption key, we're here to help!
What's this encryption key?
The encryption key is like an additional password that you create when you register for an account in the Read Your Body app. It's what makes your backups so extra private and secure. The key can be as many characters as you like and any combination of letters, numbers, special characters.
Although it's possible to reset your encryption key if you've forgotten it, the reset key will only be associated with new backups moving forward. To restore a previous backup, you need to enter the key that was in use at the time when the backup was generated.
How can I restore my data if I've forgotten my encryption key?
You have an unlimited number of attempts to enter your encryption key correctly so first we recommend trying a few different possible combinations. If you can't remember your key, then next steps depend on whether you still have access to the app on your old phone and/or if you have an RYB file saved recently as a backup.
- If you still have access to the app on your old phone, open the app on your old phone and go to Menu > Account > Manage security > Reset key to reset your key (a fresh backup will immediately be generated with that reset key), then open the app on your new phone and log into your account in the welcome flow with your reset key (your latest backup will immediately be restored).
- If you no longer have access to the app on your old phone and you've forgotten your encryption key, you'll need to restore your data from an RYB file.
- If you have an RYB file saved recently, get started in the app as a new user (tap the yellow 'Get started' button on the first welcome screen to navigate through the welcome flow) then once back inside the app import your RYB file at Menu > Database > Import to restore your data, then log into your account at Menu > Account and reset your encryption key at Menu > Account > Manage security > Reset key so that you can remember it moving forward.
- If you don't have an RYB file saved recently, very unfortunately it may not be possible to restore your data.
